BDSM & Gender Research Network Launch

Date and time

Friday, October 24, 2014 · 2 - 7pm PDT

Location

The Open University in London

1-11 Hawley Crescent London NW1 8NP United Kingdom

Description

This new network aims to support researchers exploring some of the multiple possible intersections and associations between BDSM (Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and Submission, Sadism and Masochism) and gender. We are taking both of these (complex, multilayered) terms in their widest of senses to allow for as broad a discussion of BDSM and gender as possible. This network is intended to provide a forum in which to discuss our work, to connect with others working in similar areas and to encourage and support the development of academic and public engagement activities on BDSM and gender.

This debut event will include talks from Meg John Barker, Robin Bauer, Ummni Khan and Emma Turley.

It will be followed by book launches at 6pm for Robin Bauer's new book Queer BDSM Intimacies: Critical Consent and Pushing Boundaries and Ummni Khan's book Vicarious Kinks: S/M in the Socio-Legal Imaginary.

This event is organised by Dr Jude Roberts and Dr Caroline Walters. To join the mailing list, please visit http://bdsmandgender.wordpress.com
